OK, this is a check list that every small business should consider. You may already be doing all of these things, if so give yourself an A+ and the drinks are on you. If you do 4 out 5, you’re a B; 3 out of 5, a C, and less, well, let’s not go there. And if you do none of these and still run a successful biz, congrats, how do you do it?

1. Make a yearly marketing plan. Basically write down all of the things you are going to do to promote your business AND schedule them. Ad campaigns are more effective when they appear consistently; social media engagement suffers if you take weeks off from it; blogging twice or more a week reaps huge long term “Thought Leader” benefits. How Important Is SEO to You?

A lot of what passed for search engine optimization a couple of years ago was just scamming search engines into giving out high ranks. Now it’s much more about creating quality, provocative, engaging content. Yes, a lot of blogs are still over exposed ego trips, but there is also an incredible amount of deep, thoughtful commentary, useful advice, helpful tutorials and just good information out there. And I think Google is chiefly the reason why. By constantly evolving their search criteria and endlessly catching the scammers and tricksters, they have forced a raised bar mentality. Good content is being rewarded with high rankings. And we’re all a little better for it. I can’t believe I’m praising the behemoth Google has become, but so far they’ve been pretty good citizens. As far as I know… Anyway HubSpot has a nice little article about SEO I thought you might like. How important is SEO to you?
