The importance of a profile picture

by fvm

In today’s social world – the importance of maintaining a professional image on the internet is more important than ever.  A profile picture in your facebook/twitter/[insert social network]  profile that shows you having far too much fun at the Christmas party might not convey the best impression about you and your business.

Mashable has put together some great tips about creating the perfect profile picture.

No matter how much quality information or witty repartee we send out into our social networks, first impressions are almost always visual. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that the first thing we see when checking out a new Twitter (Twitter) follower, Facebook (Facebook) friend, or LinkedIn (LinkedIn) connection is a profile photo. And in a world of quick clicks and divergent attention, if the photo you present isn’t eye-catching, or illustrative of your personal brand, you may miss your shot at making a positive first impression.

How Important Is SEO to You?

by Mark Hess
Young Man Coming Out of Old
Evolving by R. Hess

A lot of what passed for search engine optimization a couple of years ago was just scamming search engines into giving out high ranks. Now it’s much more about creating quality, provocative, engaging content. Yes, a lot of blogs are still over exposed ego trips, but there is also an incredible amount of deep, thoughtful commentary, useful advice, helpful tutorials and just good information out there. And I think Google is chiefly the reason why. By constantly evolving their search criteria and endlessly catching the scammers and tricksters, they have forced a raised bar mentality. Good content is being rewarded with high rankings. And we’re all a little better for it. I can’t believe I’m praising the behemoth Google has become, but so far they’ve been pretty good citizens. As far as I know… Anyway HubSpot has a nice little article about SEO I thought you might like. How important is SEO to you?

iPhone Apps: VALUABLE

by Alec

Apple’s iPhone is selling like hotcakes. The device is hugely popular and it is only picking up steam.

The company sold 8.75 million iPhones in the quarter for 131% growth year-over-year!

What does this say to me? iPhone Apps are HUGELY valuable. Your company will benefit if it can create an app people want to carry around with them (and the bar is not very high as there is no real limit to the amount of apps one can put on their iPhone).

How does one go about getting an App made? Send me an email, alec@fullvoicemedia.com, and we can discuss. Hope to hear from you.

How Google Search Works, Briefly

by Mark Hess

Google video

cccccccccccccccccccccccHow does Google decide a websites ranking? Well there’s a little video they made to help explain it. It’s not very deep, but you do get the idea that quality links to a site are more important than links out or keywords, and quality is measured by how in depth and targeted the whole set of pages are on any given site. There are also little videos on how Google ads and apps work. It’s worth a few minutes.
